Despite its name, this site has nothing much to do with running! It is instead a description of an approach I have used to weight management that has put me in control of my weight for the first time ever.
I have struggled to maintain a weight that I am happy with for most of my life. For a while now I have been following a non-extreme method that has allowed me to achieve significant weight loss, I am now over half way to my goal.
The “sprints” refer to the idea of breaking up an overall weight loss goal, which may be quite daunting, into manageable chunks (sprints) that are tackled over a short period of time, say between 2-4 weeks. This method is adapted from the IT industry in which I work. Most of the tech giants utilize this approach to large projects, taking the whole and breaking it down into parts that can be achieved in a short time. Each step on the way to project completion is called a sprint.
The overall principles of this weight loss approach are:
- Split desired weight loss into smaller parts, and concentrate on achieving that part
- Engage with the planned weight loss every day by recording what you eat and viewing charts that indicate progress
- Have a food and exercise plan for each day and ideally share your plans with others
- An important role for regular exercise
- Allowing the consumption of any food type, but emphasizing vegetables, fruit and unprocessed foods whilst minimizing sugar and processed food.
- Thinking long term – the most important aspect of any weight management approach is your ability to stick to it.
